Search
Choose a search provider and connect Folio to your documentation index.
Folio uses local search by default. The default implementation searches the generated page catalog in the browser and does not require a third-party service.
Use an external provider when your documentation needs provider-side ranking, typo tolerance, filtering, analytics, or a shared index. External providers are installed as separate adapter packages, so Folio's core search UI stays independent of any specific search service.
Providers
The provider adapter returns Folio page records. Folio still owns the search dialog, keyboard shortcut, result rendering, navigation, and local fallback.
Choosing a provider
Start with local search when the page catalog is small and search requests should stay entirely inside the site. Choose an external provider when the index is shared across sites or when you need provider-specific relevance and search features.
Every external adapter should document its package installation, public browser configuration, index record format, security requirements, and local verification steps.
